The Himalayas and their extension ranges to the east and west contain the forty highest mountains on the planet. Roger Morgan explores these exotic places, from Nepal, China, Pakistan and India where he found wonders through the lens of his camera and enables him to capture the extraordinary beauty of the different cultures and its people in his photography. He unveils these in his new publication, Facing East- Photos from the Heart.

In this stunning picture book, Morgan presents the photo portraits of these people. He shows how the old bears the marks of troubled and hard times, and the young are yet to face the challenges. The portraits were shot in Sichuan, China during June 2009, in Sichuan and North West Yunnan during May/June 2011, in Ladakh, Northern India during September 2011, in Pakistan during May 2012 and Nepal during October/September of the same year. They are not posed, taken in the instant of discovery, in the ambient light of the street.

He takes countless of pictures, not the posed but the candid ones that leave no room for candid smiles. He goes for the real thing, capturing the raw and honest images his subjects portray. He gets under the skin, enters the personal, the space that divides and calls for reflex. The shutter snaps to snare that involuntary retort that mirrors what is truly there, the moment when all those facial muscles spring into play. Those are the kind that are so hard to replicate - but that which cannot easily be copied has more value. For the old, the lines and the wrinkles like growth rings in a tree. For the young their countenance fresh like tabula rasa, their story yet to be written. Old ladies and the young, they work well for him.

Facing East- Photos from the Heart showcases Morgan's passion to captivate images with a collection of stunning photographs that shows the different facades of the human face, giving the readers a glimpse into the lives led by these culturally distinct and very diverse people of the East.
