"Freedom," answers Robert Seybold when asked what his memoir is about. Titled "Life & Times Thru My Eyes...," the author believes that with this coming-out-of-the-closet book, he is a step closer to living the life he deserves - one free from white lies, fibs, alibis and whatnot. Having lived his life in the shadows for fear of hurting his kith and kin, he finally musters enough strength to tell the truth and settle doubts and speculations about his identity.
Robert Seybold, or Bob as he prefers to be called, lived his life "his way," and he is proud of it. He invented a story that remained consistent all throughout that when somebody came up to probe into his private life, he would simply answer, "I had been married and had two girls. My wife passed away of MS 10 years ago." No matter who asked, it was always 10 years ago from then. All employers and coworkers were told the same story. It stopped speculation for most people. Such was the pretext of his life that in order to survive, he created his own life, not wanting to hurt anyone in the process. As for his "real" family, they thought he was either a bachelor or an old maid who never married.
Not having a child is a regret in some ways. He had never been intimate with anyone. Many of his close friends have kicked the bucket because of the dreaded AIDS. Instead, he turned to other things that made him happy, such as his job, friends, and pets. The latter he describes as his source of happiness "without a need to send them to college."
Moving, amusing and, above all, inspiring, "Life and Times through My Eyes..." unveils the author's true identity left hidden for far too long for the whole world to know and see. What is freedom for Seybold may also be freedom to readers who are dealing with their identity and sexuality and are still uncertain and afraid to come out of the closet.

About the Author
Robert William Seybold, aka Bob, wrote this book because he wanted his family and friends to know from his "mouth" that he is gay. He was born this way and had no choice in the matter. He has had to hide this from the people he loves, afraid that he would lose them once they heard from him personally. They probably have been in denial over his life, guessing and betting that they were right. It was and it is his business, but he needed to let them know his side of the story.
He has many stories to tell, when and how he personally came to meet Elizabeth Taylor, Lana Journey and about 60 other notible stars throughout his life in the many cities he has lived.
