Every family has its secrets, but it is the content of the secrets that really matter.

Author Rita Baker has penned a gripping tale about difficult family relationships in her new book, "Of Bonds and Bondage."

Set partly in London, England, the novel shadows a blackmail feud between a member of the mafia, Joseph Bocacci, and the Assistant New York District Attorney, Archie Bingham.

The unsettling truth is discovered after Bocacci enlists his adoptive grandson, Frankie Leemon, to investigate Bingham's past.

Readers will revel with excitement as Baker exposes themes of inequality between the rich and poor, deep rooted prejudices, the bonds and bondage that comes from close family ties and the hopes, passions and fears that plague our lives.

"While Archie is a very evil, wicked person, he has a vulnerability," Baker said. "No one can be all bad, just as no-one can be all good."

With several convincing characters, Baker weaves the narrative together and delivers a shocking, touching and ultimately satisfying conclusion.
