Growing up and spending his life in a small river town in the Midwest, author Richard W. Block decided he wanted to share his true experiences with other people, utilizing wit and common sense in the process. His new book, "Life as I Lived It: Small Town Country Living" (published by iUniverse), fulfills his wish to lighten readers' spirits.

"The book's goal is to bring a smile to the face of its readers and make them want to read more," Block says. "I want my book to be appreciated and help people enjoy life a little more and help them realize that (they) are capable of bettering their lives if they so choose."

From learning to hunt to reminiscing on youth and small town living, Block provides readers with humorous tales through which they can learn a lesson or find a little bit of joy. By including so many different topics, Block hopes readers of all ages and lifestyles can find something that appeals to them.

Block was inspired to write short stories about his experiences throughout life so other people could relate to or learn from them. "It only took me 10 years to make it happen," he says. "I would write in spurts and not steady, leaving gaps of years sometimes. It seems to be more like an autobiography at times rather than a book of short stories."
