WEXFORD, Ireland

A fascination with Christian churches is something author Richard Outhwaite has had most of his life, and his travels have permitted him to indulge in this attraction. His church visits have demonstrated to him that a church is more than just a building set aside for public worship. For him, the church structure is a sacred space. This analysis prompted him to write "The Christian Temple: Aspects and Development" (published by Xlibris UK), which seeks to examine the Christian church as an enclosing sacred space.

In this book, Outhwaite considers the church background - that is, what constitutes sacred space - and then the historical origin and development of the Christian temple, its theology, liturgy and role in contemporary society. It is primarily a discussion of the church, and only of the development of liturgy and sacred space as is relevant and applies to it. Most, if not all of this discussion is from an Eastern Orthodox perspective.

"This is an interesting book and somewhat takes on a different examination of the church," Outhwaite explains. "It is a reflection on the present status and future growth of the church"

"The Christian Temple: Aspects and Development" presents a different approach to the church (building) which is not purely architectural. Through the publication of this book, Outhwaite hopes to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the Christian church and what it stands for.
