Pastor Rick Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Life" begins by telling the reader, "You are not an accident." Rev. Preston N. Tolliver Jr. has taken this truth to heart and applied it to the social issues facing the United States today. His new book, "Sound Doctrine for Today's Christians; What the Bible Says" (published by Trafford Publishing), acts as a reference book for Christians to understand the scriptures and their take on the hot button issues of today.

Tolliver, who is the associate minister and assistant at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church South of Chicago, believes the scriptures provide answers to all questions from understanding the Holy Trinity and prayer to such topics as gay marriage and abortion.

"Profound statements, backed by scripture and utilized as the commentary (King James Version exclusively), provide readers with irrefutable clarity and biblical soundness," he writes. "This offers a basis for biblical doctrine examination as well as an awesome evangelistic thrust."

Tolliver has been trained in expository preaching. He concentrates on a text and pulls meaning from it rather than preaching on a topic and using different passages to provide evidence. "The scriptures are provided to answer questions concerning Christianity and its application to worldly matters."
