BERRYVILLE, Va.
Rev. Dr. Kenneth Patrick launches a new marketing campaign for his book "Journeying to the End of Life: Discovering the Ancient Hospice Way of Companioning the Dying" (published by AuthorHouse), a clarion call to Baby Boomers to engage in end-of-life care reform.
"The time has come for the Boomers to engage compassionate, end-of-life care as the greatest, most vital social issue of our era," Patrick says.
"Journeying to the End of Life" was written with a three-fold purpose: as a scope of the wisdom of end-of-life care as a Western spiritual teaching, as a reveal of the historical development of end-of-life care from the Middle Ages to modern times, and as a practical guidebook on how to transform end-of-life care in the U.S.
"We need to press forward with a new hospice Medicare benefit that will provide for compassionate, end-of-life care at home," Patrick says. "We can make dying at home, surrounded by loved ones and the things that matter most, the new norm in the U.S."
Patrick seeks to engage four main players in the compassionate reform of end-of-life care: the patients, their families, healthcare professionals and members of faith communities.
"End-of-life care is an issue that we can deny and repress, but no one can ignore forever," Patrick says. "It is one of the seasons of our lives."
