In his new novel "Caribecana: First Drink Free" (published by Lulu) author Raymond Archer takes readers into the fictional Caribbean community of Caribecana, where his protagonist begins a different lifestyle, away from the stress of big cities.

Dave Askell is an accountant on Wall Street. After a mild heart attack at age 53, he decides to leave his stressful and boring life in New York and New Jersey, and buys a bar in Cairbecana. He purchases a place on beautiful and exotic Calzo Beach, where he has a series of adventures, some romantic, some humorous - and some tragic.

As he settles into his new surroundings, Dave encounters a cast of colorful expatriates who are both ornery and compassionate. He struggles to find a balance between the lifestyles of Caribecanan people and his own background and beliefs.

Archer's story glows with the authenticity of a writer who knows his subject matter. "I have traveled extensively in the Caribbean area as well as other places," Archer says. "I felt that I had many rare opportunities to observe and explore the lives of Americans and people of other nationalities living in foreign countries."

As Horse Harry tells Dave in the book, "Maybe we could learn something from these expats. Perhaps, even, they're the smartest people on earth, because they got away from the boredom, drudgery - and especially - the work of everyday life."
