In Lester Barr's new illustrated science fiction story "Robots Land at Manchester Airport" (published by AuthorHouse), an exciting cast including intelligent robots, an alien life form who has accidentally transformed himself into a dog, and a family the alien has befriended lead readers through a thought-provoking chain of events.
Though the bulk of "Robots Land at Manchester Airport" is fictional, a bonus chapter at the end encourages young readers to think about the ideas they've just read about. This chapter asks questions such as: could robots eventually become conscious? What exactly is the difference between a robot and a human? Do the discoveries of science mean that there can't possibly be a God?
An excerpt from "Robots Land at Manchester Airport":
By now Kate was wide awake, and her heart was racing with amazement. She had always known that Charlie was special and different to other dogs.
"Yes, I can talk . . . and read . . . and sing a bit as well."
"What kind of a dog are you?"
"Actually, I'm not really a proper dog at all. I just transformed into this shape a few weeks ago. Normally I am quite invisible to human eyes. Dobber calls it transmogrifying."
"Robots Land at Manchester Airport" can be enjoyed at two levels - as a children's story or as a thoughtful but light-hearted contribution to the debate around science, atheism and faith.
