Author R.K. McVeigh has always been fascinated by the idea of fate and how it plays a role in people's lives and the decisions they make. In "The 7th Magpie" (published by AuthorHouse), McVeigh's protagonist makes all the right decisions and ends up miserable, but she's about to learn that taking a chance might change her life for the better.

"All people have times of reflection when they wonder if they made the right choices in life and how their lives would be different if only they had known better," explains McVeigh. "The frustration lies in the knowledge that without their mistakes, they would not have gained the information that would have enabled them to have made the right choices."

Karen has never felt more miserable as all that she has worked for comes crashing down around her. After clawing her way out of a life of abuse and poverty, Karen earned a first-class degree, began a promising career and found a wealthy husband whom she loved. Now, her marriage has ended and her career seems to be going nowhere. A chance meeting with a stranger changes everything, and Karen sees her prospects changing before her eyes. The roots of the past, however, are still clinging tightly, and Karen begins to realize that seemingly coincidental events are leading her on a path of well-bring.

An excerpt from "The 7th Magpie":

"Guilt had always been an integral part of Karen's life; he was an old family friend that lived with them all for good reasons, afflicting them with heartless reminders that were justifiably there, whining away like a bad case of tinnitus. His roots grew in the righteousness of her Gran that had driven her mother away from home, causing the hellish emotional vacuum into which Karen had been born and making her mother carry the guilt for the misdemeanors that had provoked her Gran's wrath."

McVeigh's book aims to inspire in his readers a "desire to investigate the true meaning of their lives and of those around them."
