If mankind needed saving, who or what would intervene?
In Doug Lavers' new book "Rekindling of Hope," an alien super intelligence must intervene to stop humanity from imploding. The first edition in a trilogy, this new book is a socio-economic commentary disguised as a science fiction novel that takes a dramatic but calculated look at the world's future.
"This book should be taken as a warning of what might happen if current political and economic problems are not addressed effectively," Lavers said.
"Rekindling of Hope" takes place in the year 2022 and traces the political and geophysical consequences of current physical, political and economic trends. Important current event topics are explored including China's growing economic and military power, Egypt's potential to turn into a human catastrophe and how it could force a complete change in Western humanitarian sensibility, and how failed states like Pakistan could become utterly disastrous. Lavers poses an associated question about whether torture could be justifiable.
He is the author of two other published thrillers. His writing reflects his own viewpoints on various current event topics and the way they could force complete changes in Western society. His professional and scientific background influenced the writing of his new series.
"In a sense, we seem to have forgotten that liberty comes at the price of hard work and constant vigilance," Lavers said. "I wanted to make a personal protest against current trends."
