REBIRTH WITHIN MY HEART Discusses Healing Power of Prayer

In 2012 an enlarged tumor meant multiple open-heart surgeries for artist Sezin Aksoy. Healing was slow and agonizing, but she credits meditation and the arts for guiding her recovery and reshaping her outlook on life.

"Art became my saving grace," Aksoy said. "It provided me with an escape of my physical pain and barriers. Without it I'm unsure how successful my recovery would have progressed."

Aksoy details her numerous alternative healing treatments in a new memoir, "Rebirth within my Heart". She hopes that her experiences will bring awareness to life's silver linings and the opportunities that arise after difficult times.

Since her surgeries, Aksoy's art career has taken off. She's had multiple solo exhibits and has received media attention in both her native Turkey as well as the United States. Aksoy credits her near-death medical experience with allowing her to appreciate life and paint with perspective.

Sezin Aksoy graduated from Bryant University and School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and lived in the United States for eight years prior to moving to Turkey. Since her surgeries, she's taken up boxing and Pilates and adopted a puppy. "Rebirth within my Heart" is her first book.
