DAYTON, Ohio

Poet and author Lewis Ashman gained many insights from his experiences of growing older, the relish of an especially lovely spring and meeting an old friend he never expected to see again. All these experiences directed Ashman's creativity and intellect to write the poems in "April Fool" (published by Xlibris).

This is a book of poems about getting old and, yet, experiencing rebirth and a renewed hope for the future. The poems address aging and the yearning for simplicity and tranquility. In the poems, the narrator gently reassesses his ways of thinking about his self and the complexity of the world. He constantly stands witness to the immediately present beauty of the natural world. It is essentially a reflection of life as the author lived it.

This is a book of poetry that is very serious about the issues it addresses. Ashman worked hard as a craftsman to construct these poems. He sees his work not as a "word game", as he notes of other poets, but as the product of profound thought and deeply felt experience. He hopes that readers will "feel refreshed and encouraged and hopeful, perhaps, even at peace after reading my book."
