"Soul Grasping Poetry and More" (published by Trafford Publishing) is a collection of inspirational poems by first-time author Phyllis Wiley. Inspired by the challenges the author faced as a single mother, the book has a very real-life feel to it. The central message of this book is hope in the face the chaos and confusion of life.

Wiley's poems compel the reader to look beyond life's troubles to within oneself, and rise up like a phoenix overcoming the odds. The author's poems deal with difficult life situations like teen pregnancy, gang violence and fighting against prejudice, and in all of them she expounds on the benefits of self-belief, love and reaching out to others.

An excerpt from one of the poems, "May I Have This Dance":

"When you can love those who has done you wrong,
Greet them with a smile as the beat goes on,
You may dance to the beat of life as you stand,
Look yourself in the mirror and say, May I have this dance?"

These and many other lilting verses of poetry exhort the reader to keep holding on and never give up. The poems will strike a chord with those struggling with issues such as spirituality, race, gender and death. "I hope my book will inspire everyone to strive for victory over whatever has them bound," Wiley says. "Love conquers all but it must begin with you and in you."
