Phillip Kendrick has been interested in the Civil War since he was a young boy, and he has studied countless books and resources dealing with this tragic yet romantic time of American history. His keen interest about this subject prompted Kendrick to write "Forgiveness" (published by Archway Publishing), a compelling narrative historical fiction that details the life and times of a young doctor who was forced to participate in the bloody Civil War as part of the medical corps.

The book follows the journey of young, inexperienced country doctor named Travis Lane, a reluctant hero who was forced to confront the horrors of war and do what he can to save the lives of the wounded men of the Civil War. Once he is rescued from the mundane soldier life by an Old Acquaintance, John Mosby, he is recruited to operate a hospital in northwestern Virginia for the wounded men of the 43rd Virginia Battalion, also known as Mosby's Rangers.

Readers will also discover in this book some little-known facts and information about Civil War events, such as the involvement of the Freemasons in the production of the first submarine, and how the war might have ended after the Battle of Gettysburg. They will also learn how Stonewall Jackson was so successful, and will see from both a doctor's and a soldier's perspective the effects of soldier's disease - or addiction - on the lives of the men and families consumed by war.

"I want readers to obtain a better understanding of the War Between the States. I would like them to appreciate the amount of research required for the book. I want them to laugh and cry when they read my book," Kendrick says.
