NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ More than 300 architects, designers, and public officials gathered last night to celebrate the launch ofThe High Line, a new book just published by Phaidon. Co-authored by the project's creative team, landscape architects James Corner Field Operations, and architects Diller, Scofidio + Renfro,The High Lineis the first book to fully chronicle the creation of the world-famous park from the designer's perspective. It is a behind-the-scenes account of the inspiration and creation of New York's beloved public park in the sky.The party was held at The Standard, High Line in New York City.

"The book brings to life the creative process behind the High Line by the architects who conceived it," said Keith Fox, CEO, Phaidon. "The architects lead us on an exciting journeyexploring their inspirations, the design, development, and ultimately the ground-breaking park. We were thrilled to celebrate their achievement last night among so many of their peers and admirersincluding Friends of the High Line."

A percentage of the proceeds from books sold at the event are being donated to The Friends of The High Line, the organization that funds, maintains, and programs the park.

The High Line contains 570 illustrations: sketches, plans, archival materials, photographs, historical plans, letters, and newspaper clippings spanning over a century of Manhattan's architectural and cultural development. Mirroring the architecture and composition of the park through its large landscape format, the book also features 50 stunning gatefolds and previously unpublished archival materials including the original design proposal and exclusive construction images.

The park has changed how political leaders, urban planners, and designers think about cities and public spaces and has inspired similar projects around the world. Originally intended to attract 300,000 visitors a year, the High Line now receives six million visitors annually.
