Jesus is at work and he is alive through his believing people. This belief forms the very foundation of author Peter J. Blackburn's "Jesus at Work," (published by Xlibris AU) a spiritual guide that relates the truth about God's message before and after ascension and challenges many of the assumptions of modern-day churches who are still, as the author asserts, "dogged by the quest to be 'the greatest'."
Initially serving as portion of a three-part sermon series for a ministerial service in Edmonton Uniting Church in Cairns, the book flourished through the guidance of God and the warm support of his congregation, according to Blackburn. In this book, he shares that "Jesus is neither dead nor absent."This is explained in detail in his four major themes: Building His Church (not our denomination), Growing His Body (not our corporation), Gathering His Harvest (not the spasmodic "outreach") and Coming Again (a goal and end-point to the mission). With his vocal views on issues of church hierarchies that have led many to dwindle, separate or untangle their connections with a church, he offers an opportunity for healing, hope and faith restoration.
"This book is particularly pertinent to all Christian believers - lay people, local leadership and what might be called the organisational 'hierarchy'," says Blackburn. "It deals with issues that have often led to controversy, discomfort and disillusionment. It does, however, endeavour to take the biblical point of view seriously and to draw us all back to the hope offered by our core beliefs and the mission to which Jesus committed us - and still commits us."
Candid and insightful, "Jesus at Work" reveals God's call for a Church that is strengthened by a genuine spiritual connection and unified by a common Christian faith.
