In "The Hunted: A Novel" (published by iUniverse), author Peter Clenott's new adult suspense novel, readers join a young woman who must fight through the mysteries surrounding her past and save mankind from extinction.
When a helicopter is forced to land in the Amazon rainforest, a geological survey team discovers the Ipanao, an indigenous tribe that has hidden in the forest for thousands of years. Only five remain: the elderly shaman, three children and an infant named Suyape. When they are brought to the nearest medical facility, tests uncover something troubling. Their DNA isn't right.
Now 17-year-old, abducted from Brazil and adopted by two anthropologists, Suyape begins to have visions of a time when ice covered the earth and when unworldly beings mixed their genes with the prehistoric humans of the day. As she attempts to conceal herself from scientists intent on exploiting her mysterious differences, hunters determined to kill her are closing in. Suyape must reunite with her Ipanao kin to fight her alien forebears determined to take the earth for themselves.
An excerpt from "The Hunted":
"Above Suyape, all around her for that matter, up, down and everywhere, the universe held its breath, kept its counsel. A shooting star, completing a journey far older and longer than Suyape's, penetrated the earth's thin crust of life. She watched as it descended in the very direction she intended on going. A chunk of iron. A rock that might carry life on its surface, crashing onto the world just above Tasillaq. Perhaps that was where her genetic structure had come from, where her strangeness began. On a rock from beyond the orbit of Mars. Without any prompting from Dr. Plansky, Suyape began her fall to earth."
Clenott wants readers to know, after reading his book, that "all of us, young and old alike, must work together to prevent global disaster and fight against human greed and the mindless industrial pursuit for profit that threatens global habitability."
