Author Solutions, LLC, a Penguin Random House company and the world leader in indie book publishing, announced Wednesday that Plume-an imprint of Penguin Random House-has acquired and released the first two novels in a survivalist series penned by A. American. American self-published the flagship title, "Going Home," with Author Solutions' Xlibris imprint in November 2012. In addition, American will author two more titles that Plume will release at a later date.
"For an indie author to secure a four-book commitment from a prestigious imprint like Plume speaks highly of Mr. American's work, but it also speaks to the impact indie publishing is making as a proving ground for new authors," said Andrew Phillips, CEO of Author Solutions. "This is another shining example of the endless opportunities available to any author with the vision and determination to write a great book."
The novels focus on Morgan Carter, a survivalist, who gets to put his skills to use when the nation's power grid collapses while he's 250 miles from home. With no electricity, water, Internet and no guarantee of return to normal, Carter straps on his prepper pack and hikes through the chaos to return home to his wife and daughters.
Editorial Director Philip Budnick said the titles were appealing because Plume has had past success with the survivalist/prepper genre. With more than two decades of involvement in prepper and survivalist communities, American brings credibility to his characters and storylines.
"Plume publishes 'How to Survive the End of the World,' by James Wesley Rawles, a non-fiction prepper, and it has sold very well," Budnick said, "The quality of American's writing as well as the popularity of this genre made this series a natural fit for Plume."
