Paul Glen was traveling and teaching in Eastern Europe shortly after the end of communism in those countries and observed some interactions of American teachers and indigenous employees that were working on the transition from communism to democracy and free market conditions. Some close personal relations occurred between members of the two groups. This scenario inspired him to write "A Time of Transition" (published by Xlibris).

This book tells the story of Charles Mclendon, an American professor who was sent to Romania to help the former communist country make the transition to free market management. However, he became very close to Gabriela, his excellent translator and organizer of his classes and lectures but is struggling with her own marriage. Romance blooms between the two even if both are married Christians. Back home, Charles' wife discovered their relationship. During his short return assignment to Romania, the professor realizes that he has to sever his unwise romantic relationship with Gabriela because of family complications and because of their distance from each other.

"This book will appeal to any readers who can relate to work relationships that lead to romance," says Glen. "It is very relevant in today's society because there are many businessmen and professional people working outside their home countries who develop romantic relationships with indigenous workers."

Filled with descriptions of Romania's crumbling economy after 45 years under communist rule and its difficult transition to democracy and free market economy, "A Time of Transition" is an entertaining romantic fiction that reflects the difficulties of international romances where the concerned parties are intellectuals separated by distance and culture.
