Suwanee, Ga.
After a four-year period of swans being killed on her property's lake, author Patti Barrett Webb decided to write her heartfelt new book, "Rosie's Story" (published by AuthorHouse), about a fictional swan who tells the story of losing her feathered friends.
As Webb wrote her new book, she realized it is often difficult for adults to explain loss to children, as well as how to cope with the many feelings associated with grief. For this reason, Webb says "Rosie's Story" can act as a counseling mechanism for those children struggling to accept death and loss as a natural part of life.
"The world is so tired of all of the massive killings and lack of regard for human life," Webb says. "Swans are so beautiful and they were muted and clipped so they could not get away from the evil presence that took their lives. This book aims to change that story to one of hope for saving other animals."
An excerpt from "Rosie's Story":
"I began to feel very sad. They played music and released white balloons into the sky. I tried to understand what this meant. Many mentioned that this was for Moorey. 'Was Moorey in the sky?' Better yet, 'How did he get there?'"
