In "Validating Committed Partnerships: A Still More Excellent Way"(published by Trafford Publishing), Jim Bowden presents a new relational paradigm supported by scripture and practiced by Jesus Christ. In this new book, Jim explores significant changes in marriage in the Western World since biblical days. While procreation (birthing children) remains important, the major emphasis in our present culture focuses upon mutuality in marriage, ie, partners fulfilling relational needs for one another rather than being ruled by patriarchy. Also, some people of the same gender by nature are attracted to each other and desire to have their committed partnership validated publicly.
As a result, Bowden presents a new relational paradigm suggesting that committed male/female relationships as well as committed same gender relationships share the same title of partnerships. This new relational paradigm is completed by emphasizing that the committed relationship of a male and female be entitled, a marital partnership and the committed relationship of two people of the same gender be entitled, a same gender partnership. This distinction allows each partnership to maintain its uniqueness. The author also recommends that both partnerships share similar legal standards. Jim thinks these partnerships will support one another, will strengthen marriage, and give us renewed spiritual vigor in creating meaningful relationships providing a win/win situation for our society.
