The book is the story of “The Man” whose already very successful adult life is drastically changed by traumatic events. The journey that ensues is a dramatically different life than he had expected, and its ramifications affect not only him and his family but touch the lives of many others and eventually the nation as a whole.
In writing “The Man,” Highbarger raises valid questions in some of today’s most contentious areas such as social issues and advancing technology. It also shows how flawed people can continue to drive their way to success. One of the clear trends that the book highlights is the transition from male dominance to female leaders, even in areas where females have not generally been considered for leadership roles.
“One of the most important things in life is how you react when things go wrong. A person’s ability to put the bad things behind them and move on is a key to their eventual happiness and success,” Highbarger says. “While you might not agree with how they do it, the book provides a number of examples of people making the most of bad situations.”
Through “The Man,” he imparts a reminder for readers: “Things are changing very rapidly. Your happiness and success depend, less than ever, on where you came from, and is entirely up to you to create.”
