A captivating new picture book from this Commercial Scientist-Astronaut Candidate connects nature to real places across a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop.

This book is for both children and adults. In On My Way to the Lilikoi Tree, Amato-Ocampo offers fun and fascinating facts about the Hawaiian islands, a glossary of definitions with pronunciations, and provides a detailed map of the five animal friends' adventure. Readers will discover that the book:

  • Promotes teamwork among children to achieve a common goal.
  • Teaches children that disappointment can lead to a positive viewpoint and outcome.
  • Adults will appreciate the symbiotic relationship of commensalism (one species benefits, the other is not affected).

"Astronauts and Authors...(On My Way to the Lilikoi Tree) an exciting find in the lineup at BEA 2015," says the Los Angeles Times. The best reviews come from the children who read the book. "The real reviewers here are my 3-year-old twins. Ever since I first read it to them (months now), they ask for Lilikoi Book, Lilikoi Book! It is a wonderful story, and as someone who loves Hawaii, I love that it has aspects of Hawaiian nature, life, and culture about which the kids ask questions. My kids know all the characters by name and sometimes pretend they are them. Truly a delightful read, and it's been on our Top 10 list from the day we got it," says Dakin Ferris, Attorney, Author, Dancer, Oakland, CA.

Jonna Amato-Ocampo volunteers on the island of Oahu by providing education, public awareness and conservation in the Spirit of Aloha as a Honu Guardian and helping to create a Hawaiian dry forest. She is a Scientist-Astronaut Candidate with Project PoSSUM, contributed to her community as a volunteer, performing political constituency work in Jersey City, New Jersey, and served her community as a First Lieutenant and volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol in Addison, Texas. Her beliefs are writing to inspire, photographing to create a vision, and sharing to give hope.
