Norman MacRitchie's book God's Perfect Man will interest many individuals raised in the Christian or Jewish faith, and many others acquainted with the story of Job. All that they know about Job will most likely be remembered from Sunday School lessons, that he was a man of infinite patience and for that patience he was amply rewarded. That is not the Job you will discover in Norman MacRitchie's book: God's Perfect Man. Patience was the least of his virtues.
The Book of job as it appears in the Jewish and Christian Bibles is the canonically authorized text, read and studied by millions. Yet there has never been widespread agreement as to what is message or the central question, or the intent of the book of Job. A number of subsequent emendations and redactions have resulted in a puzzlement of interpretations. Many scholarly reviewers including theologists and philologists agree that those alterations did not come from the hand of the original author. Norman MacRitchie's God's Perfect Man hopes to make these changes evident.
Although dealing with a book in both Jewish and Christian Bibles, God's Perfect Man is not about religion as such; there is no dogma here, no rules for conduct or behavior, and no rules for worship. It is about Job's dilemma; how to deal with the terribly tragic, devastating vicissitudes of life that are, unhappily, applicable to all human beings. Tornadoes, floods, civil strife, genocide massacres, in which many suffering victims are apt to cry out "Why me?" Amid the painful blows and suffering it is the "Why me?" that agonizes Job.
God's Perfect Man is also a book about poetry, perhaps the most outstanding feature of the book of Job in the King James Version. Norman MacRitchie says, "If I have not made that apparent then I have sadly missed my mark and a major portion of my intent."
