REFUGIO, Texas
Move over Superman, Spiderman and Cat Woman, these days superheroes don't have to wear skin-tight spandex or capes. Sometimes, a hero can be a young, innocent female with the heart of a kitten and the courage of a lion, like Harriet in the new book, "Harriet the Happy Hippo and Her High-Heeled Shoes" (published by Trafford Publishing) by Blanche Perez.
"Harriet the Happy Hippo and Her High-Heeled Shoes" is a straightforward story showing how to maintain joy in life regardless of the trials one might face. Harriet is a happy hippo who will not let anyone dull the joy in her life that comes from wearing high-heeled shoes and eating sandwiches. But her happiness does not protect her from other people's negative comments.
When the children in Harriet's town get stranded at school, Harriet's quick thinking saves them, but in the process she sacrifices her beautiful shoes. For her heroic act, she gains the praise of all those she helped, plus an extra reward.
"Harriet is one of a kind," Perez says. "She is ready to tackle the world and entertain us in the process. You do not have to wear a cape to save the day."
