Tough detective Gus MacFadyan, hates drugs, is straight-laced and is happily married (he thinks), with two children. He is shocked when his wife announces she wants them to take part in an experiment, proposed by a marriage counselor supposedly to alleviate marriage boredom, which involves partner sharing. When he meets the beautiful therapist, he rethinks his attitude. Things get messy when he discovers the identity of a drug dealing king pin he is chasing down, and violent murder is plotted.
The story combines a romantic twist, a look at marriage attitudes and police crime drama.

The author of "Sex, Drugs, and a Beautiful Woman" (published by Balboa Press AU), B. L. Roberts, is a retired lawyer who has had experience with drug addicts. "That many married couples are tempted to stray outside their wedding vows, is evidenced by successful dating sites such as 'Ashley Madison,' and the many popular dating shows on television," Roberts says. "This book examines the mores involved, seen through the eyes of a drug-hating detective while he attempts to bring dealers to justice."

An excerpt from "Sex, Drugs, and a Beautiful Woman":
He could rationalise making love to Lisa along the lines she had put to him. It was just for fun, it would not go anywhere, it was just a physical act they both enjoyed, and nobody was hurt by it. Lurking behind these somewhat facile thoughts lay Mandy's face looking at him, and a lifetime in believing in keeping his word, and doing the right thing.
