The need for a prayerful life among God's children cannot be more emphasised, especially today. Of His Finger is laid upon the pulse of that great thread of divine intervention engendered by prayer. Dr. Benjamin Ume, a noted apostle of the faith and an expert on Biblical matters, gives testimony and quotes many examples from the Bible on how God, the Giver of Life, answers those who pray in the right way.
"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me." The line from Psalm 63 offers a first step in prayer methodology. Like all things involving God, there is common practice and proven dogma - as men are wont to cry out to their deliverer in times of stress, they are not fully aware of the complete dimensions of spiritual connection and therefore cannot complete the intimate circle of communion and communication with the Divine. Prayer, therefore, is not just a talisman for protection but something practised everyday so that those who pray become a part of a continuous interchange of spirit needed for a life fully recognised (and therefore protected) within the precincts of God's grace and mercy.
Even prophets have faltered in those times when one misstep in the process of prayers was needed to protect a life. Elisha was unable to save the life of the Shunamite woman's son because he failed to fulfill a promise to pray at an appointed time. He would eventually save the boy by rectifying the omission with an urgent prayer. Other examples of the power of prayer abound in this book. Prayer unto God has brought about all sorts of relief to men and women: a king won victory; dreams and their interpretation became easy; the dead came back to life; management of human resources, including appointment to high office became more successful, and even a man's lifespan could be extended significantly by God. Dr. Ume has written a gift through which all men may be fully explore and practise the blessings of a prayerful life.
