PsychologyToday.com defines addictions as a condition that results when a person continuously ingests a substance or engages in activities that can interfere with ordinary life responsibilities. Author Gary Van Slyke knows how debilitating addictions can be. In "Where's the Mongoose??" (published by Trafford Publishing) he shares poetry that capture the ups and downs of his journey out of addiction, imparting a universal message of hope.

Van Slyke found inspiration a few weeks into his stay in rehab. The start of his writing journey began when he awakened one night to see the moon shining through the windows of his bedroom. He spent the next three months writing original poems which he would compile in "Where's the Mongoose??"

This collection of original poems gives voice to the darkness that comes in times of vulnerability but above all, it captures redemption and grace that the author found at the end of his journey. At the heart of this anthology is a powerful story of renewal and healing after tragedy.

"I would like to share these with all who are afflicted by this horrible disease and with the families of those who have adventured wrongly," Van Slyke says. "Those of you who read this will have shared most if not all of my feelings and the loss of family, possessions and most of all trust. And you will be reminded of all to be regained with faith, hope and perseverance."
