A picture book about a lady and her adopted kitten who loved each other in the short time before fate separated them, RF Martin's Tears of the Heart is about the circumstances that causes homeless pets to be turned out of homes and the fairy tale circumstances which saved the said kitten.

The story starts with the ordinary lives of two newbie teachers and roommates, Joanna and Hardy. Joanna adopts a kitten she finds by the wayside one winter but has to put it out (the kitten she names Amy, who has given her love and joy) because Hardy is allergic to cat hairs. Sadly, Joanna gives up Amy to the animal shelter but not before giving Amy a blue ribbon with a silver bell earring tied to her neck, tokens of Joanna's affection for the kitten. Joanna wears the other bell earring on one ear, and every time she moves and makes the earring tinkle, she is reminded of her Amy. How was she? Where was she? Was she safe or even alive?

Meanwhile, when the shelter took Amy in, it had consigned her to a childless King and Queen. Quickly she became their favorite, bringing light into their lives. They loved her so much that their love creates a miracle-Amy is transformed into a real girl child who grows up into a beautiful girl. She is proclaimed as their Princess Amy and is later betrothed to a Prince of the Woodlands. She is the beauty they have longed for. Joanna hears rumours of a miracle and goes to the Woodlands to attend a celebration. There she finds Amy, still wearing the blue ribbon and the silver bell earring. They recognize each other and Joanna hears about Amy's story since adoption. In the end, Joanna is content-she has a family of her own and her story and Amy's find closure. In this moving, memorable tale of miracle and magic, RF Martin shares a belief in love (as in the 1 Corinthinas 13 verse) that "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things. (A) love that never fails."
