Author Gail Carpenter shares her inspiring story of spiritual growth in her new book, "God Didn't Have to Make the Crickets Sing: A Gripping True Story" (published by WestBow Press).

After being saved at a slumber party when she was just 14, Carpenter embraced God's love and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior. Though she was devoted to God, Carpenter and her husband also shared a passion for the American dream, a dream that would take them down a long, painful road.

In their pursuit of the American dream, Carpenter's husband went through layoffs and closures of nine accounting jobs, causing much pain, instability and confusion. Carpenter struggled as she experienced fear and the pressure on her husband and family as her dreams kept unraveling before her. It was only when Carpenter heard God's song that she found her true peace, strength and joy.

Through her book, Carpenter imparts a message of faith, hope and peace. She reminds readers that God is all around them if they only stop and listen. She hopes readers will find inspiration within the pages of her book.

"We can have a personal relationship with God," Carpenter writes. "He is always there working to heal and open our understanding that He is our true source for life."
