New Memoir Tells the 'Saintly Life' of Young Man who Fought Cancer

“Just Dance” is written to chronicle and celebrate the life of Patel’s grandnephew Rakesh, who passed away after three years of battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The book shares his most remarkable moments, his leadership and most importantly, his positive attitude at the time of his diagnosis. The author recalls how Rakesh would inspire people by reminding them of his mantra: “Don’t worry about anything. Just dance.”

The book is intended to inspire anyone who is going through cancer or other life-threatening illnesses to find hope and strength. It depicts how love, positive attitude and faith in God and in the process can get one through any situation, even though the outcome may not be desirable or as expected.

“After the passing of Rakesh, I found out how he had lived his life helping others, providing comfort and leadership to any one needed, including the time he himself was suffering from ALL and knew most likely he may not survive,” Patel says. “I felt that his life needed to be shared, if nothing else, as inspiration to others, who are going through cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.”

She came inside, put her hand on my head, and said, “Everything is going to be okay. You will be just fine.” For some reason, I felt the utmost peace throughout my body and knew that I would be better in no time. It was then that I realized that I too want to make a patient feel the same way that I felt at that moment. I too wanted to make a difference in someone’s life. I wanted to be a physician’s assistant.
