New Memoir Shares one Mothers Story of Coping with Grief

As Colleen Curzon Openshaw’s adult life unfolded before her, she was given more grief than any one person expects to endure. “God Shall Wipe Away All Tears: A Mother’s Journal of Caregiving, Tragedy, and Hope” (published by Archway Press) tells the true story of a mother who encounters a rare genetic immunodeficiency, hyper IgM syndrome, in several of her sons as well as coping with the grief brought on by the illnesses and deaths of her children, first husband and parents.

Taken from her own journals and those of her husband and children, Openshaw wanted to share with the public the lives of her family as well as her increased faith in God who helped her through all these tragedies. The memoir is a “tender and heartbreaking” account of a family and their hope in a brighter tomorrow.

Openshaw hopes that readers will take away from the book that family is important, so they should “stick together and help each other.” She also wants readers to remember that children are a blessing, “if our bodies are imperfect that doesn’t mean our lives are worthless, and God can help us in our everyday challenges and in our most difficult trials.”

About the Author
Colleen Curzon Openshaw was born and raised in a family of seven children in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has a Bachelor of General Studies from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in English literature and a Master of Science from the University of Phoenix in special education. She and her husband Michael G. Curzon had nine children. After the death of her husband, Openshaw has served as a volunteer mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and worked for the Granite School District in special education. In 2013, she married Gary G. Openshaw. They reside in Salt Lake City and currently volunteer together in the Latter-day Saint Salt Lake Temple. Colleen has six living adult children and four granddaughters.
