When his wife was diagnosed with cancer, Francis Kai turned to religion to find stability. Unfortunately, the sacred doctrines Kai had prescribed to his whole life were failing him.

During his search for spiritual guidance, he stumbled upon the teachings of Christian suffering by Protestant leader Martin Luther. It is through Luther's ideas on grace and grief that Kai experienced a renewal in faith that he now shares in "Catastrophe Theology."

"Catastrophe Theology" explores Kai's spiritual discoveries as he faced life's toughest battles. He sheds light on his Catholic upbringing and the religious abandonment he felt when his wife and child were taken from him. This personal memoir delves into his search for spiritual help and theology of Christian leaders. Along the way, Kai learns more about God's grace in times of trouble and the doctrine of suffering.

"I had a deep knowledge in Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox principles, but that could not help me stand firm when I faced calamitous situations," Kai said. "When I read the writings of Martin Luther in the Protestant church, I finally felt grounded. Catastrophe Theology is the deeply personal and spiritual journey I had to experience in order to find divine wisdom."
