After being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in 2009, author Jacqueline Buckley was inspired to write her new memoir, "Eye of the Storm: Personal Commitment to Managing Symptoms of PTSD" (published by iUniverse).

"I share my experiences living with PTSD but, more importantly, I share my strategies for managing its symptoms," Buckley says.

"Eye of the Storm" features a chronology of the events leading up to - and following - the 1998 Swissair Flight 111 tragedy in Nova Scotia. While working on humanitarian efforts with the Canadian Forces Dental Services group after the plane crash, Buckley developed PTSD. It would be years before obtaining a diagnosis. When diagnosed in 2009, she began treatment and found the strength to manage the symptoms of PTSD and advocate for others to do the same.

"In Canada in the past few months (PTSD) has become the face of our media, as we have had several of our post-Afghan soldiers commit suicide," Buckley says. "It makes you wonder if they may have been suffering in silence or not being heard when they looked for treatment; I know I did. If my book can reach just one of them to let them know their struggles are not alone ... then my mission is a success."
