New Memoir, AN IRON CURTAIN BREAKAWAY, is Released

Author Maurice Nachtigal knows the plight of the Syrian refugee. Nachtigal was born in Bucharest in 1933 to a Jewish middle-class family. In 1980, Nachtigal, his wife, Sidonia and their children, Noel and Alina, left for America in order to escape Romania's totalitarian regime. The second book in his two-part memoir, "An Iron Curtain Breakaway" charts the struggles and sacrifices of this ordinary family and how they overcame incredible odds through love, trust and perseverance.

Maurice Nachtigal became a United States citizen in 1986. As a pathology professor, he taught at USC School of Medicine and conducted research mainly on viruses and atherosclerosis.
