When Russell Baker discovered the century-old World War I diary of his grandfather, Victor Baker, he thought to himself, "When most can be deleted with the push of a button, how much history will we leave for our own ancestors to remember us by?"

Clinton mhic Aonghais, a genealogy expert and friend of Russell Baker, helps Russell bring his grandfather's diary to life in the new history book, "The Baker Boys" (published by Trafford Publishing).

"The Baker Boys" is the end result of Russell and Aonghais' work piecing the diary together. It chronicles the unique experiences of Victor, as he narrowly survives many wartime encounters including German U-boats and more. It also unveils something Russell and his family was unaware of: his grandfather's older brother, Malcolm, who gave his life during WWI.

Aonghais and Russell hope "The Baker Boys" will not only pay homage to Victor and Malcolm Baker, but also to everyone who fought in "the war to end all wars," while reminding readers of the importance of history.

"This is a story not just of the war, but also of family misfortune, emigration and brotherly love," mhic Aonghais says. "It's a reminder to us all that our freedom has not come easily and that sacrifice should be remembered and respected."
