PLAINVIEW, Texas - In author Andrew Hannon's debut novel, "The Prince, the Plague, and the Perfidy" (published by iUniverse), young Prince Percival is sent on a quest to retrieve a healing fruit for his dying father. While searching for the mystical remedy, he discovers untapped supernatural powers. Facing betrayal from his brothers and an ancient enemy, he must overcome myriad trials to not only help his father, but confront his family's greatest nemesis.
Hannon says the novel is inspired by an old fairy tale. The story plays on the classic trope of good versus evil: "Everyone, deep within their heart, wants the honest and good to triumph over evil," says Hannon.
An excerpt from "The Prince, the Plague, and the Perfidy":
"Brother Ferris," said Percival. "Do not believe this woman. She is a witch-a great enchantress."
"Ha!" Ferris laughed. "She told us you would try to persuade and if possible bewitch us into believing that she was a great sorceress, and that you were innocent of all charges."
"This is a lie!" cried Percival. "How can you take the word of a stranger who has been here only a few days?"
"A lie, you say," said Ferris. "You are the liar, for her word was confirmed."
"By whom?" said Percival.
"By a member of the royal family," said Ferris. "Sardis has seen your black magic. He has seen your sorcery. He has seen you create magical beasts and control the elements with your black powers. No, Percival. You are the dark sorcerer, but soon we shall be rid of you."
