New Fantasy Novel BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is Released

Having been put up for adoption and battled with drug addiction, Monique Brooks has already gone through a lot for a girl of 17. To make matters worse, Monique learns she is from a completely different world. After her adoptive father finds out, he tries to kill her for the power that she holds. Now, not only does she have to figure out a way to save herself, she must work hard to save the thousands of lives she has in her hands.

Author Jasmine Dhuga says she originally developed the idea for "Behind Closed Doors" (published by AuthorHouse) when she was 12: "As I matured, the major themes in my book were developed," she says, adding, "They were inspired by various social issues that I became more aware of as I grew up."

Though the story places emphasis on a fantasy-based narrative, Dhuga explores themes revolving around sexual abuse and mental illness - discussing their lasting effects, the stigmas that surround them, the secrets many maintain - as her characters strive to overcome the obstacles that lay before them.

An excerpt from "Behind Closed Doors":
This place was paradise-an easily habitable environment like Earth, but much easier to breathe in. Even standing there seemed easier, despite Sam's grip. I felt lighter, like I was floating, but when I looked down, I saw my feet firmly planted on the ground. I felt much more alert, more aware of everything around me than I had ever been back on Earth. I felt better, livelier, revived almost. I felt like I belonged.
