The Sunshine Workshop announced today the winners of the "Broadway Bound" International Songwriting Contest: Patty Shukla, Emily Whitcomb, Gianvita Bonaduce and Ron Viens. Scheduled for release in fall of 2012, the musical is be based on the children's book, "The Thanksgiving Coat," written by Elizabeth Hoadley and illustrated by 5-Year Old Kailee of The Sunshine Workshop.
"The challenge is to build a new children's musical like it's never been built before; to have persons from all over the world, any race, age, religion, country or culture contribute original music to encourage good deeds and random acts of kindness," said CEO, Hoadley.
Florida based, international recording artist Patty Shukla has been performing professionally for over 15 years as an actor and musical performer. Her music focuses on positive educational messages for young people. "Patty is creative and talented both as a writer and performer and I am delighted to have her as part of the new musical's creation," said Hoadley.
Minnesota resident Emily Whitcomb is also a an actress and musical performer. Whitcomb's song ‘Something Good is Coming' portrays ‘Sweet Zara' in the orphanage looking forward to a better day. "It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it," says Hoadley. "She's the type of writer who pulls the music right from her heart and deepest feelings."
Canadian Gianvita Bonaduce and Ron Viens combined their musical prowess to create ‘Someone's Shining Star.' For close to five years, Gian and Ron have led a children's choir in Quebec, Canada. "They took the message of ‘The Thanksgiving Coat' and their song encourages children to develop that same sense of optimism."
The Sunshine Workshop will be working with these four artists and others to complete the new children's musical, scheduled for release in fall of 2012.
Kailee and Elizabeth recently appeared as guests with Seamus O'Reagan on CTV News, Canada AM, Canada's leading National News program as Kailee launched her 6th published book entitled, "I Know I Can". She recently had a birthday and is now 7.
Kailee and Elizabeth Hoadley have written, illustrated and published 14 children's books which are being warmly welcomed into schools and homes across Canada and The United States. "Kailee and I hope to encourage optimism, hope for tomorrow, and belief in one's self today through our stories.
