Jacob Haslem's first children's picture book, The Gift Giver, has just been released in hardcover, softcover and ebook and paperback. The message is perfect for Christians who want to remember that Christmas isn't about getting gifts, it's about giving them.
"I wanted to write something that my kids would connect with and love," said Haslem. "I hoped that it would help them feel closer to the Savior at Christmas time, and because of that feeling they would feel what I hope to feel at Christmas: joy and the love of God," he said.
Like many parents, Haslem worried his children would get wrapped up and lost in the commercialization of Christmas. He created this story to help children feel the excitement and fun of the holiday, along with the meaning. He then recruited his good friend Nick Allen to help write and develop the book.
The Gift Giver tells a story that is meaningful to all ages. The message is timeless and ties together two timeless figures - Santa Claus and Jesus Christ.
Book's Blurb: On Christmas Eve a boy stirs from sleep to find an old man, in the living room, dressed in red with a bag full of gifts. Excitement soon gives way to disappointment as he finds he has received fewer gifts than expected. The old man sees the young boy's protest and tells the story of his origins and his motives. As the boy becomes privy to this mystery, a question comes to his mind: is it by magic that the old man accomplishes his task, or is it something else... The lesson he learns will change the way he views Christmas forever! If you are a fan of The Polar Express, and T'was the Night Before Christmas, you will love The Gift Giver.
Author's Bio: Jacob Haslem grew up in Greybull, Wyoming. As a child and youth he had many memorable adventures. He always had a great appreciation for a good story. The Gift Giver marks his first effort to write a book of any kind. Having been brought up in a close and strong family with a firm faith in God and Jesus Christ, he has always aspired to be a good family man. He has been married since 2006 to his best friend, Whitney Scott. Together they have two sons, Ethan and Mason. She and his two sons are his whole world. Jacob's hobbies and interests include: most anything creative, sports, coyote hunting, really good food, music, good stories, movies, and the occasional video-gaming session with his brother.
Nicholas Allen has a passion for storytelling, and entertains groups of friends, family, and innocent bystanders with witty, and occasionally epic, tales of his daily life. He dreams of one day being able to write books, and tell his stories to the world. He and Jacob have known each other for years. This is their first project together. He also enjoys good food, a good joke, and afternoon naps. However, more importantly, he loves the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and cherishes the opportunities he has been blessed with to experience the gospel in action.
The Gift Giver is a blessed project he hopes will touch families in a positive way. Both believe the book will become a timeless tradition in many homes and hearts.
