New Children's Book by Pansy Anderson, HOW I BECAME A BIRDBRAIN, is Released

Although a young girl from Green Bay, Wis., walks away from a serious car accident on the way to her grandmother's farm with nothing more than a banged-up head and a headache, it's not a good start to Christmas vacation. Things go from bad to worse in this new children's book when Tracey has to drop all her extracurricular activities. Although she isn't happy with her doctor, Tracey soon realizes she is hearing voices - and nobody's home.

"How I Became a Birdbrain" follows Tracey as she recovers from the accident, enjoying the newly decorated room she shares with her twin, Tammy. Once her parents are back at work and her sisters are at school, Tracey has some quiet time. The problem is it's not quiet - she is hearing voices. It's not until she passes by a window that she realizes she's listening to the thoughts of birds. She begins experiments to see if she can communicate with them, focusing on a bold bluejay.

Tracey soon can call birds to her yard and talk with them. Even back at school she can't help but communicate with her feathered friends. Her talent suddenly comes in handy when an emergency happens at home. This charming chapter book, beautifully illustrated by Narooz-Michael Soliman, captures the warmth of family bonds amidst an unexpected gift.

Author Pansy Anderson, a former special education teacher for children in preschool through high school, has told stories from an early age and even taught using stories. Anderson, a master gardener, has a master's degree in special education. More recently, she's taken on the challenge of publishing stories. This mother of two moved from Wisconsin to Florida, trading blue jays for pelicans and sugar maples for palm trees.
