VOORHEES, N.J.

The latest Census shows that Caucasian children will constitute less than half the population of under 18 year olds in the United States by 2020, and that by 2044 more than half of all Americans will identify as non-Caucasian. So thinking of Caucasians as the majority is, at best, outdated.

Author Valerie Christopher wants to reset the accepted worldview in regard to race. By reaching out to young children in her new book "I Am Not a Minority! I'm Part of the Majority!" with the message that children are not less because they are sometimes outnumbered, she hopes to influence a new generation to grow their unlimited potential.

"I have a great concern for children 'hearing themselves' being referred to as minorities," Christopher said. "I feel it is a derogatory term when it is used to refer to or characterize any race of people."

Christopher's book is filled with images of children of varying races learning, playing, and dreaming about their futures with equal expectations.

"As children and adults, we are people," Christopher said. "We might be of Asian, African, Caucasian, Hispanic or Indian descent, but we are still people. There are people who look like all of us all over the planet. So no one, racially speaking, is a minority. We are all part of the majority."

Christopher and her book "I Am Not a Minority! I'm Part of the Majority!" will be featured at the 2015 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in Los Angeles, April 18-19, 2015. For more information, visit valeriechristophercollection.com.
