New Children's Book Shows the Value of Trying New Things Image Author Kathryn Evans has released her new children's book, "Sophie the Skunk Who Sometimes Stunk", which follows the trials and tribulations of Sophie the Skunk as she explores different hobbies to find her talents.

Evans, an elementary education teacher, wants the story of Sophie to remind kids that it is okay to not always be the best at something. Like Sophie, kids can give new hobbies their best effort and trust that even if they don't always make the team or get a part in the cast, it is better to try and fail than to never try at all.

"My goal is to show kids that sometimes it's a good thing to not be the best at something," Evans said. "You might discover a new talent you may have not noticed before."

Readers will relate to Sophie and find comfort in her ability to get back up after she falls. Seemingly negative outcomes will be seen in a more positive light, allowing children to feel comfortable trying new things, even if they do not succeed.
