ANCHORAGE
Jesus employs the phrase "living water." He uses it to describe the Holy Spirit, saying that people who find it will have quenched the thirst of their souls.
Nikki DeLaCruz has written a children's book titled "Shield of God," which uses simple prose and illustrations to show kids that God's power can shield them from any adversity or adversary. She hopes to help kids recognize that the Bible is the path to the living water.
"My goal is to get children excited about Jesus and to empower them with the knowledge of God's power that he shares with all of us," said DeLaCruz.
DeLaCruz was coming from a very personal place when she wrote this book. For several years she struggled with low self-esteem and depression. Her relationship with God helped pull her out and gave her a new purpose to help others with their own struggles.
"God has a heroic character and a fierce love for all his creation," DeLaCruz said. "The children who read will also be retaining key verses that sharpen and strengthen their 'spiritual sword and shield' that help them in the spiritual warfare many of us are completely unaware we're even in."
