New Children's Book Create's The Dora of Ocean and Conservation

According to the Kaiser Foundation, as of 2009 children aged eight to 18 were spending more than seven and a half hours a day with non-school related technology. With the increased prevalence of smartphones, tablets and portable video games that number is even higher today.

Author Miriam Salinas writes her new children's book, "The Adventures of Ruy Diver," to bring back the glory of classic story telling with a message.

"When I took my children on a car trip they didn't have an endless source of video streams and games to distract them," Salinas said, "I used to always come up with stories to tell to keep them entertained or bring books to inspire their imaginations."

"The Adventures of Ruy Diver" is inspired by Salinas' son's passion for the ocean when he was a child and the stories she always told her children when travelling, putting them to bed or occupying them during a boring wait.

"I want children to use their imagination when they read this book," Salinas said, "but I also want them to learn something. That is why I made Ruy such a curious character."

Ruy learns that anger never solves problems, scary or intimidating people often have a good heart, spending time outdoors with family and friends is great and that there are some amazing creatures in the ocean that could really use our help.
