POWDER SPRINGS, Ga.
The business world is made up of successes and failures. Currently, the Small Business Administration estimates that only half of startups make it to their fifth year of business and only 34 percent will make it to the 10-year mark.
Like many entrepreneurs, Dr. Richard B. Liposky - a veteran surgeon and businessman with 65 years of experience - rolled the dice and took risks, but with each failure came a lesson and opportunity. His new memoir and business guide, "It's Not What I Know...It's How I Learned It" (published by Xlibris), illustrates how failures identify weaknesses, how weaknesses can become strengths and how strengths can ultimately become successes.
"It's Not What I Know...It's How I Learned It" teaches profound lessons in business through Liposky's true-life experiences. His business ventures started with a paper route at the age of 9 and eventually led to the operating rooms in Vietnam. After returning to the U.S., Liposky completed a facial reconstructive surgery residency, opened his own practice and taught surgery for many years.
Over the years, Liposky provided surgical services to the freedom fighters in Central America and served as a consultant to the U.S. State Department in the People to People program. He also launched Specialty Dental Services, Online Dental Consulting Services and Dental Specialists of America, LLC, of which he is currently president and CEO.
With each venture, Liposky encountered obstacles and challenges, but each experience taught him a valuable lesson in business. His book seeks to highlight each lesson learned and show that in order to succeed in business, one has to try.
"Success comes with an investment," Liposky says. "Just decide what you want; decide what it will take to get it; decide to do what it takes to get it. The journey to success begins with a decision and only you can make the decision."
