In his new book of poetry "Night Visions" (published by Trafford Publishing), author Stephen J. Herman uses verse to express his experiences of having both metaphorical and literal night visions.
The overarching themes of the poems in "Night Visions" are best described by Herman. He says, "They contain dreams and [visions that arise from a deep place within the collective unconscious and take form in images and words." Herman has drawn inspiration from the people and things around him - the forces that he says have helped him to transcend the darkness within him. At their most essential level, Herman's poems are a reflection of his journey from darkness into light.
An excerpt from "Night Visions":
Nothing but understanding the moods we have
no understanding for a negligible divide
to get the feet in shape for the perilous
down to the end or beyond where the darkest door
leads out to the brightest plain
Herman hopes readers will connect with his poetry; he feels the themes are universal. "I want readers to take away a journey from dark to light," he says.
