At four days old, Liliana Kavianian stopped breathing and was pronounced dead. Due to her mother's persistent begging and praying, Kavianian was bathed in holy water and brought back to life. She tells her story in "Rosa Lilia: Scar of Abuse, Heart of Hope."
From that day on, Kavianian's life has been marked by death and abuse. Growing up in Ario de Rosales, Mexico, her mother did not feel destined to be her nurturer and left four-year-old Kavianian with her alcoholic uncle and controlling grandfather.
From a young age, Kavianian dreamed of escaping Mexico, starting a new life and fulfilling the American Dream.
"Before I wrote the book, I felt like I was dragging chains of misery around with me," Kavianian says. "Writing the book brought me a sense of relief I've never felt before. Soon, the weight was gone and I hope to inspire that in others."
"Rosa Lilia: Scar of Abuse, Heart of Hope" is Kavianian's powerful memoir of escaping demons, protecting loved ones and relying on inner strength to overcome extreme obstacles.
Putting her story on paper helped Kavianian experience a great sense of relief and accomplishment. She hopes that her story will inspire others to have the courage to achieve their dreams.
