New Book Tells Eye-Witness Story in ACCIDENTAL ASSASSIN

When Jack Ruby murdered Lee Harvey Oswald, the world exploded with theories of a widespread conspiracy. When the Warren Commission reported on the tragic weekend in Dallas, Texas, that began with Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy, those conspiracy claims were re-doubled.

Then a mixed-up young man stands in a sixth-floor window and fires the fatal shots and the world press swarms into overwhelmed Dallas. Two days later, the assassin is murdered.

With a message to the people who will be writing the inevitable 100-years-after stories, the author says that it's important to know what it looked like and felt like when the two murders occurred, not just dry-as-dust facts and certainly not the swarm of conspiracy fantasies. Jack Ruby was waiting politely in a Western Union office at 11:17 a.m. and he murdered Oswald at 11:21 four minutes later.

"Accidental Assassin" lets you live through that dramatic story, as it began just half a century ago and as the investigations unraveled of Oswald, Ruby and a huge cast of characters in Dallas, Washington, Russia.

About the Author
Before becoming the director of Quinnipiac University Polling Institute in Hamden, Conn., Maurice Carroll worked for nine newspapers, starting at the Rutherford (N.J.) Republican, in the town where he grew up, and culminating at the New York Times (still there) and New York Newsday (now defunct). At mid-point of Carroll's journalism career, he worked at every reporter's favorite paper, the New York Herald Tribune, which sent him to Dallas after the Kennedy assassination which is the topic of this book. With defense attorney, Melvin Belli, the author wrote "Dallas Justice", the book is about Ruby's murder trial. He also worked with Bob McFadden and Joe Treaster on "No Hiding Place", a book about the Iranian hostages.
